27th July - 3rd August 2024EIJ2024 is coming! It returns for another unforgettable seven days and nights, bringing Scouts and Guides together from across the UK and around the world and we are excited to be taking a contingent from Basingstoke East for the very first time.

We’re delighted to be taking a contingent of Scouts & Explorers from Basingstoke East to the Essex International Jamboree (EIJ) in 2024. Our initial contingent is signed up and ready to go, however we are really pleased to be able to now accept some additional bookings.
A Jamboree is a camping experience like no other, and this one in particular brings together 10,000 local, national and international Scouts and Guides for a week of challenge, adventure and fun. During the week, they take part in a wide range of activities and in the evenings there are lots of amazing things to take part in.
Being part of a Jamboree is an unforgettable experience, not only because of the array of activities, but also the opportunity to make new friends from all over the world, learn new skills and take on new challenges.

What is the Essex International Jamboree (EIJ)?
Put simply, it’s an enormous camp for Scouts and Guides from around the world; it lasts 1 week, but takes years to plan. It’s a famous event in the Scout and Girlguiding world, and is renowned for being one of the best jamborees.
The event is held in a huge field every four years at Boyton Cross near Chelmsford, Essex, which is only 40 miles from London and it’s major transport hubs.
This 120-acre green field is transformed by 1,500 volunteers into a fully operational tented village. By this we mean it has all the facilities you’d expect – water, showers, toilets, electrics, communications, food distribution, health and welfare services and even a beach!
On Saturday 27th July 2024, our Jamboree will open again to 10,000 Scouts and Guides from all over the world to camp together for a week of fun, discovery and adventure, embracing the spirit of Girlguiding and Scouting.
We have a varied and exciting selection of activities including a range of adventurous, creative and cultural activities following the Scout and Guide programme, as well as opportunities to meet new friends from around the world.
In the evening, the Jamboree becomes even more vibrant with lots of different entertainment venues and activities.

Cost
The cost to attend this event is £495 which includes travel to/from the jamboree, event ticket, all meals on the event and a training/introductory weekend (20/21 April). We understand that this is a large amount of money so we have split this into a number of payments. Deposit of £150 to secure place is due by 20th October. The remaining balance will then be paid over 5 monthly instalments of £69 starting on 1st December. This cost covers travel to and from the jamboree, event ticket and a training/introductory weekend (20/21 April).

District Commissioner
Paul is one of our District Commissioners who lead Basingstoke East Scouts. Paul has been involved in organising and running many events from Summer Camps through to Disneyland Paris.
Jack Tracy
District Commissioner
Jack is one of our District Commissioners who lead Basingstoke East Scouts. Jack has led the organising of some of our largest events such as Beastly and District Hikes.
Craig Harris
DDC Programme
Craigs role is looking after our youth programme across the district. Supporting all sections across the district Craig is a familiar face with many of our young people and well experienced in events.

Tim looks supports our Scout sections across the district. Tim has been involved in many large events and is a great chef!
Sam Domloge
Cub Scout Leader
Sam is a Cub Leader within our Old Basing group. She has attended many group events and brings another familiar face to our event team.
Alec Coomber
Explorer Scout Leader
Alec is one of our Explorer leaders, so a familiar face to many attending, also a great opportunity for our next generation of explorers to meet one of the team. Alec has been involved in a number of international experiences with young people.

How do I sign my young person up to attend?
As long as you attend a Scout or Explorer Section within Basingstoke East, you can simply sign up using the registration form on this page. We’ll reach out to your group to access your details and then reach out to arrange payment.

Spaces are limited and bookings will close on 20th October or when the spaces are filled, whichever is the earlier date.
What is the cost of the event?
The cost for this event is £495 which includes event fee, full catering, transport & a pre-jamboree event. A deposit payment is required at registration and we will then split the remaining cost into installments to be paid by 10th February 2024. Participants should be aged 10+ at the start of the event and under 18 by the end of the event. We never want cost to be a barrier to anyone attending any event. If finance may be an issue, please talk to your Section Leader or email events@bescouts.org.uk to discuss in confidence.
What are the payments?
Your payments depend upon which phase you registered for the event in.
Phase 1 Registrations (before June 2023)
- Deposit Payment £75.00
- Followed by 10 monthly payments of £42.00 starting on 1st July 2023
- Total payable £495.00
Phase 2 Registrations (Sep/Oct 2023)
- Deposit Payment £150.00
- Followed by 5 monthly payments of £69.00 starting on 1st December 2023
- Total payable £495.00
What if I cancel my place?
We have committed to the event to purchase the tickets once you have signed up, therefore we are unable to offer refunds. We will always try our best to sell the place onto another person so that we can look to reimburse you that way.
What kit do participants need?
Participants will need to bring a standard camp style kit with them. We’ll provide tents and communal kit.
What if they don't know anyone?
We are holding a training weekend before the event on 20-21 April 2024. This one night event is included in the cost of the main event and is the chance to meet other partipants and the leadership team.
